The heat shields may cause more harm than good. They tend to trap crud
(and even rocks, for our more adventurous/crazy members). You can
safely remove them, just be sure to do it with the plugs IN, then clear
out all around the plugs with a blast of compressed air to ensure
nothing's in there that could fall into the cylinder (that would be,
um...bad).

I've had my 3923s for 2 months or so now, and have a totally stock
engine. Other have been running them a very long time. I never heard
of a "competing" plug that folks were really digging in the year I've
been here. If you've got any pinging (most 97-99 V8s have at least a
little), the 3923 can help. Unless you drive almost exclusively in stop
& go city conditions, you won't have any problems with them.
