4x4 light on dash

I remember seeing someone mentioning that when you put your truck into
four-wheel drive a light by the 4by shifter comes on, and also one on the
dash comes on. I have a 97 4x4 and there is nothing on the dash to suggest
this. Is this just something on the pre 97 DAKS.
