My father was an old mopar racer. He took over driving for Bob Lambeck
when Bob had a serious pro stock accident around 1973. The two formed a
successful partnership until my dad retired from drag racing in 1986-87.
Bob still runs (mostly in SS, sometimes in Comp) and his son Doug fields a
second S/S car. Doug won SS at the NHRA US Nationals in 98 and 99 (among
other titles). The car is a small block 90 Camaro that runs high 8's. The
little known trivia item is that instead of the usual powerglide unit it
has a ProTrans built 904 derived automatic in a modified Jeep case. Bob
has to have a little Mopar engineering in all his cars!
I have one of dad's Super Stockers (a 440 six barrel Road Runner). I
can't decide whether to just show the car and run nostalgia Super Stock
races with it or to convert it to Stock eliminator. No amount of money
would make it competitive in SS thanks to NHRA factoring.
