| Lets also be honest... I saw the price sticker here at a local dealership
(took
| my company truck for an oil change) and the price was $27k for the car
and $23k
| for the cobra-r package. Plus there was another $5k for other options
from the
| factory. This amounted to a $55k mustang that I don't care what they do
with it
| is still a cheap sports car. Oh, the plitter air-dam and the giant wing
hanging
| high above the trunk really makes it look like ...well....a ricer. Sorry
but it
| was truly ugly and I don't care how many ponies are under the hood. For
that
| price I can find a much more suited performance car that I would rather
own. Dak
| content....my '96 has way better looks than that thing...yuk!!!
For that kind of money you start to get up into some pretty heady company!
Maybe not the HP but certainly better handling and more refinement:
A Z06 Corvette (new limited production super refined and lightweight road
racer)
The new E46 M3 Far and way the most wild M3 ever.
The new 320hp MCoupe. Pure Road Racer. A coupe of grand in mods and its
on rails.
Even a Boxster S will probably get you more attention even if you lose the
drag race.
In the first three, I guarantee you I can take the Cobra R on any decent
road course. Even the Boxster S may put up a decent fight, I'm just not
convinced on power.
I am glad they are building factory hot rods and tuner specials. I think
Ford deserves a big hand for allowing some of these projects to go forward.
We like to bash them sure, especially that Lightning thing, but I wish DC
had the guts to do stuff like that. The R/T is better looking for sure.
But it doesn't deliver OVER THE EDGE performance.
The problem I see is that they have priced themselves way out of their
marketplace. If I'm just looking for the hp, you can supercharge and
modify a Camaro SS for alot less. For $55K, I bet I can find a nice 98
Viper GTS broken in a race ready!
I imagine what magic you could do to an RC Dakota. Slammed Hotchkis
suspension, supercharged 420" all aluminum Sprint car smallblock (I don't
screw around), Jerrico clutchless road race 5 speed, fiberglass body, full
cage, narrowed 9" rear (sorry, that's my pick for this app-lighter than a
Dana and faster gear changes stronger than an 8 3/4 and better pinion
support). Think of it as a midsize Nascar truck on the street. Lighter
with twice the HP. $55K ought to cover it.
Damn how I get caught up in mindless benchracing sometimes...
