I haven't heard anything else about this yet so my reaction is to your note
only. I'm surprised that the police consider it anything but the accident it
seems to be unless there's some other circumstance you didn't mention. I
have been surprised by the actions the police here have taken before. The
most recent example is the one where the police car was doing 70 in a 35
zone and struck another motorist when he was turning on to another street.
The police actually held the man struck responsible for the policeman's
death in the resulting accident and charged him with manslaughter when it
was clearly the actions of the police that caused the accident.

Anyway, the response of the police department here seems to be complete
nonsense and I suspect that either we'll learn more or the department will
be roasted in the press yet again. In either case the truck driver and the
company that employed him should seek legal assistance at their earliest
possible opportunity to cope with the coming possible criminal, and even
more likely, civil court appearances.

Regards, Mike Klinke
