Jon-

I hate this part more that any other on a cam change! I never seem to get
it right.

You have to line up the slot in the distributor gear instead of the
distributor rotor. You pull up the distributor gear and drop it back in.
The tricky part is that it rotates as you pull it up and as you put it back
in. I never ever get it right the first time. I watch Lambeck do it and
he of course nails it the first time everytime and probably thinks I'm the
biggest idiot who ever lived. I doubt if I'm in the top ten.

Usually you have the slot in the distributor gear aimed at the drivers side
front intake manifold bolt with the motor at top dead center.

| Well the cam is in, and I was putting the timing chain on... I can't get
| the distributor to point to the same place before I pulled the old cam
out,
| and maintain the dot alignment between the crank and cam sprockets. Am I
| doing something wrong? Can I pull out the dist. gear and rotate it, then
| drop it back in?
