Traction bars?

I got my *used, no instructions* Lakewood universal traction bars today. I
wanted to put them in, and I had a general idea how they go, under the axle,
centered, rubber snubber as close to the front eye as possible. One
problem: Daks have the rear axle mounted spring over axletube. It won't
fit..
Can I mount it upside down, over the springs, and point the snubber down
toward the rear spring hanger eye, rather than up toward the front eye?
Any help will be appreciated.

I also found out that my new 14x3 K&N filter combo needs a longer stud
*about 1/2-3/4" longer to mount it. I found that using the old lid will
keep things solid till I can get a longer stud.
