Re: larger TB and MPI manifold for V8 (kinna long)

Head over to http://www.quickd.com/ . Tony usually does a "trade" on
TBs (he sends you a worked one, you send back your stocker) but his page
says things can be arranged if you want to keep the old one. I paid
$250 for mine, and will be returning the stocker. If I ever sell/trade
in my truck, it'll be replaced my something that the old 318 TB won't
fit on.

My QuickD goes on Saturday. I'm stock except for 3923s anda QuickD
intake. Will be posting unscientific results Saturday night (note to
self: fill tank, find cop-less, flat, straight, traffic-free roads).

Out of the box, I think the MPI does require some work to get onto our
engines. Jon sells a kit to help in the process,
http://www.steigerperformance.com/ . A stock TB will bolt right up.
There is a tab/ear that needs to get removed from somewhere to fit
around the A/C, IIRC. Here's Jon's install writeup:
http://www.dakota-truck.net/UPGRADES/MPI/index.html

As for benefits of the MPI, I've heard that it won't be *fully* realized
unless you have an upgraded exhaust to boot (getting the air in is
useless if the exhaust can't get out). Of course, if you've got a
leaking belly pan gasket (as some do, which causes the notorious
p.i.n.g.), you'd have to remove the intake manifold to seal things up,
so....hehe, why not replace it while you're there? That was my
rationale, but since I don't seem to have the leak, I won't be doing the
MPI for a while.
