If you have the trailer balanced so it's not extremely tounge heavy.. your
18's will be fine.. if it's going to be setting the weight on the truck a
bit.. I'd agree to use the factory wheels for the trip.
As for the 5000#, I wouldn't think twice about that part.
I tend to work things closer to thier limits..
       Did 3500# behind an 86 2.2L Plymouth Turismo from Phoenix to
Chicago... had some trouble (actually difficulty) in the mountains.. but did
manage it.
       We just did about 850 with a 2.3L Ranger pulling a Dakota.. Did that
fine as well..
My 95 has carried close to 2000.. and that's carried.. not pulled.. with a
supposed 1200# payload.
       Ratings?? Ha.. we don't need no stinkin ratings.. the factory has
them extremely underrated.
Just don't try and set speed records with it.. and be ready to stop early..
and you'll be fine. The Dakota can and will pull.
