Brian,
How much did they charge you to install the transgo kit? I'm
thinking about putting 1 on my 98 dak, but I really don't want
to go putzing around in the black magic of auto trannys. I'll
use your reply as a benchmark for central florida area. Thanx.

Jef,

Don't know where you are in the D.C. area, but if you are in
Va., I'd
recommend you call National Transmission Service. They are located
in
Bailey's Crossroads (5900 Seminary Road, Ph: 703-379-8000).
My regular good 'ol boy shop recommended these guys to me a number
of years
ago, and they've been very good, very honest, and inexpensive
(which was a
real surprise!).

I've had them re-plumb the lines for my factory tranny cooler
when they
started to leak, install the Transgo Shift Kit (which they got
perfect on
the first shot), installed Kevlar bands in the tranny, plus my
regular
flushes & adjustments.

(parts/fluid/labor for the tranny lines was $120 - which included
all new
fluid & filter as well. Seemed pretty reasonable to me.)

They also have Amsoil available if you want to go that route
(one of there
guys is a distributor). I always just have them use the Castrol
Synthetic.

There are some Speed & Off-Road shops in the area, but they are
$$$$$!

Drop me a line off list if you need more info.
If you're near the area, run by sometime and ask them what the
cost would
be.

Later,

Subject: DML: DML- switch to a limited slip differential

I've a 99 4x4 SLT xtend cab, V-8, w/ part-time 4-wheel, automatic
and an =
open differential in the rear. The rear axle is a 10-bolt Dodge,
8.25. =
I want to switch to a limited slip. The local Dodge dealers
have been =
miserably unhelpful when I call for estimates, as If they don't
know how =
to do it...., and I can't seem to find a shop in the Washington
DC area =
that can do this work. (I don't think we have any real speed
shops =
around here.) The truck has 10K miles (bought used).

I'm looking for ideas and some answers. The truck gets limited
of-road =
use and some snow use, so I don't need an extreme off-road set-up.
 =
What's the most durable option? Should I consider switching
the entire =
axle (is this the third member?) from a bone-yard? Will the
drive shaft =
fit as is? Anyone know what Dakota/Durango/Wrangler/other models
are =
compatible? =20

What about doing the rear only?

If I buy a new diff., whose is best for my application?

Thanks in advance.

Jef
