1978 is about the time the lock-up trans was introduced. If your input
shaft has a hole thru the center then it is a lock-up model. Changing one
over is a major job... as the input shaft, reaction shaft assy, and valve
body are different. The 727 has been built for big horse power. I have
never seen the inside of the a500, I do own one and have a lot of
questions.

Subject: DML: A500 trans (904 OD) and 450 HP?

As you may know, I am (Slowly) building a 360 to put in my 88' Dak. It
currently has a 3.9 backed by an A500 OD trans. I have a 727 that I was
going to put behind the 360. Now I'm thinking that I could save a lot more
gas with the OD trans. My question is, will the A500 stand up to about 450
horses? Can I convert the 727 to a lockup torque converter? (727 is a 1978
model.)

Thanks.
