Ok Kyle, I'm not sure if you are wanting to stay with Mopar or not, but
here's my suggestion. I would get a Toyota 4x4 4cyl 5-speed, preferably one
91-94 (before the Tacoma) if you could find one with reasonable miles. I
haven't had any experience with the Tacoma, but I'm sure it is a great truck
as well. These are very tough trucks, and seem to run forever. They are
also excellent offroad and have more ground clearance than our daks. The
4cyl 5-speed combo will get you between 18-20mpg city and around 23-24
highway only. A big help in this area is the lock-outs up front. I'm
almost certain that the 4cyl 4x4's come stock with 4.10 gears too...although
this doesn't hurt the mpg. It does help with the acceleration and offroad.
I'm not trying to get you to drop Mopar, but just giving you another option.
Oh yeah, there's also the TRD version (in the Tacoma) with the locker up
front....can't remember if it's mechanical or air, but you control it from
inside. I'll definetly own another Toyota one day.
