I never, as a rule romp on it, until I am at operating temp, warmer than the
guages' cold mark, in the little range arc marking. Also, anything over 3
grand when cold like that is bad for internals, especially on startup.
Throwing a rod, or spinning a bearing is not a reason to toss in that 380
crate motor Magnum.. Not in the funds yet..
