My aunt&uncle were driving down here to houston from dallas today. They were
driving their '98 Ram ext cab.,1/2 ton,4wd,318/auto/3.55 truck has 18,000
miles on it,never towed anything. They left, got about 1 hour down the
road.My uncle said he was driving like 80 mph, when the transmission shifts
down into 3rd gear, and the O/D off light comes on.So, he says it's turning
like 3500 rpm in 3rd, wich prompts him to slow down considerably, all the
while he is messing with the O/D button to make sure he didn't just bump it
and it won't come back. So, he knows he has lost overdrive, and continues(guy
doesn't know cars).About 3-4 minutes later, the trans. temp light
illuminates. So, he calls the dodge roadside assistance program and asks them
what he should do.after putting him on hold for 2-3 minutes, they tell him to
pull it over ASAP! so, he gets off on the next exit, and the truck is barely
pulling itself along.Dodge sends a tow truck from the local dealer to come
get them, and they tow it down to the dealer. They got a rental(dodge
neon-that's all they could provide when they brought in a 4wd?) and came
on,but my question is,what went wrong? I had the fluid changed in this truck
at 15,000! Has anybody experienced any failures like this? On a better
note,He hates american cars to begin with and might GIVE me the ram!
