Hey all, need some help!!

Friend at work has a 97 SLT 3.9 that needs a new evaporator. Understand
its in the dash and saw a post yesterday about an $1100.00 Dealer fix.
Needless to say, he doesn't want to spend that much.

Any suggestions? Can he do some of it himself? Anybody know what all
is involved or perhaps have access to a 97 FSM?
