Jay,

The 5W is the cold weather viscosity. It allows the oil to flow freely in
cold, cold weather. The 50 is hot temperature viscosity. When temperatures
get hot the oil maintains thick lubricating capabilities.

HI Ron

But my dealers always recommend 10W30 oil in my truck 12 months of the year.
Will changing different weights of oil affect anything?

Thanks
Jay
