My 01 with a 22 gallon tank also comes on when I'm down to about 5 gallons
(17 to fill) also. Giving me around 100 miles to find a station before I
drain the tank, however, I try to fill it shortly after the light comes on.
>From your post I can't tell if you filled the tank as soon as the light
came on and know for sure that the light came on with 8 gallons still in
the tank. If not I would suggest that you fill the tank as soon as the
light comes on. Assuming you have a 22 gallon tank if you take anything
less than 16 to 17 gallons, it would appear you have a problem that you
might want to have looked at (or just live with it).
