RE: Weird fuel gauge readings

"The light comes on with about 8 gallons left in the
tank, and this is consistent behavior for my truck.
Is/has anyone else experiencing this?"

My 2000 Club Cab 4x4 Sport does about the same thing.
The low-fuel light consistently comes on when the
gauge shows 1/8th tank left. If I fill it then, it
will take about 16.4 gallons. If I wait until it
reaches the empty mark, it will take just under 18.

This used to bother me. But I've come to think of it
as a five-gallon reserve; about 75 miles of driving.
It still bothers me that the information my gas gauge
delivers does not agree with that in the "distance to
empty" function of the trip computer. But not enough
to do anything about it.

All of this assumes that the truck does have a
22-gallon tank as the owners manual says is does :-)

Anyone ever run their truck dry just to confirm the
size of the tank?
