If your battery lost a cell, it will not take a charge. Each battery has
several cells (think of them as rooms) that contain plates and electrolyte.
Losing a cell is having a short between the plates. There is no rhyme or
reason for losing a cell. My '92 original battery lasted 7 years before I
replaced it (it would drop below spec during startup, but performed fine)
and my wife's Intrepid died after 1.5 years.

Subject: DML: Do I need a new battery?
My battery is going dead. It's having a very difficult time starting
yesterday and today will not start at all. I haven't left any lights on. I
would have thought my driving yesterday would have recharged the battery but
I guess not. My question is do you think the battery just needs a jump and
some more driving to re charge it? Or just a whole new battery? If I need a
new battery which optima battery should I get?
