RE: Brake Wear

One of my major complaints about the dak are the brakes. I've heard other
people with the same problem, but not everyone, so I don't know exactly
how widespread it is. Here's the history:

~20k miles - factory rotors warped. Dealer machined them.

~40k miles - warped again. I replaced the stock garbage rotors with
aftermarket ones. Pads still have plenty of meat though.

~60k miles - aftermarket rotors warped. Luckily, I had bought NAPA premium
rotors which were actually warranted against warpage, so I got a free
replacement set. Pads still had meat, but I decided for a full replacement
here and bought metallic pads. Installed new rotors and pads. So far, so
good at 70k.

Oh yeah, and the right front caliper piston was disintigrating, so I had the
dealer replace it.

Again, I can't speak for all owners, but the stock brakes on this truck have
not impressed me. I do know for a fact that chrysler is known for having less
than perfect brakes - I just read a dodge ram owner's report in a magazine, and
something like 25% of the mechanical problems from the survey involved brake
trouble.

However - aside from the POS cat converters they put on these trucks, the brakes
are my only complaint. They may have addressed the issue on newer models.
