AAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! My head is spinning!

Thanks to everyone for all the pointers. In true DML fashion, I now
have more information & advice than I know what to do with. I still
don't know whether I'll wire into the fuse panel or splice into the
lighter. Both seem like good options, but both also have pitfalls.
