A couple of thoughts,
The truck belonged to the estate of the brother. If
he was not delinquent they did not have a right to
take the truck. Also, if he was delinquent they still
had to go through proper channels to reposes the truck
- notification etc.
Finally, think about this. Did the loan company have
legal notification that the brother was dead? That
opens up other issues.

The family could still pay off the note and get the
truck. The will would determine who got the truck.
No will - the state usually desides.

Have her talk with a lawyer or the police.

Re: life insurance & debts/liabilities after death -
If you are single (no children, spouse) there isn't
much need for life insurance unless you want to be a
nice guy and leave your parents something or want to
pay for your funeral. Your birth family is not
responsible for your debts - unless they co-signed.

So if you're single and know you're going to die soon-
get as many credit cards & unsecured loans as possible
and spend up to the limit. Your relatives would not
be responsiable, unless they co-signed.

If you are married, house, car payments children then
life insurance is defiantly a good idea. All that
debt can plunge a family into bankruptcy.
