Hi Crit,

The installation of your CD changer is not as simple as you'd like to
believe. I don't know how your '01 is set up but if it's anything like my
'00 you are going to need a Chrysler electronics technician. Your audio
system (if it's like mine...CD, cassette, and radio with optional amplifier
and remotes on the steering wheel) is connected and communicates to the
central timer module through the CCD which is the Chrysler Collision
Detection system. It does this so it knows not only the status of your
remote switches but also your amplifier and head unit itself. I believe
(and I ain't no expert) your new CD changer must be wired through the CTM as
well or, at the very least, it must present some kind of status to it. Our
vehicles are getting smarter all the time so you must tell it when you
connect things to it or it will burp on you....or worse yet, it'll throw up
on you. ;-) I know this doesn't solve your problem but at least now you
have an idea that it's a problem that can be corrected. Oh, yeah, the CTM
talks to the DRB III scan tool as well....doesn't everything?! Find
yourself a good technician before you let them mess with it. From your post
it didn't sound like you were too confident in your dealer.

I installed a mopar changer in the truck yesterday (P/N 82202700) and the
15-ft
cable (P/N 822300930). I've left the rear seat out of the Quad and the
cable's
still plugged in at the head unit. When I connect the changer at the rear,
the
dash chimes, my check engine and check gauges lights come on, my odometer
flashes 'No buS' and all the gauges go dead. The changer also makes some
funky
noises. When I disconnect the changer the dash chimes and the gauges go
back
to normal. I've replaced both the cable and changer today and the same
gremlins persist. My dealer is totally worthless and doesn't know what to
do.
One service writer said that he had seen it before in other cars and that
the
body computer was dead, but that I'd have to see the elctrician on Monday.
Someone give me some options here, please.
