Try using a rubber mallet and tap on the corners of the heads...

I'm pulling the heads off the 'ol 318 tonight. At least I'm trying to. I
removed the head bolts, but can't get the heads to come loose from the
block. What's the best (safest) way to get them to break free so I don't
scratch either surface?
