Matt,
I work as a transportation consultant and have been concerned about American
transportation assets (manufacturing, sales, and maintenance) being sold off
to foreign companies. The Chrysler-Daimler merger is one example supporting
my theories on the subject.
Could it be the German and American mentality do not work well together.
The Germans make great automobiles, but have a "lock-step" atttitude that
Americans don't really fit into. (This is not only a personal opinion, I
have seen this type of comment in some of the business editorials.)
When Daimler purchased Chrysler Corp, they thought the workers would roll
over and play dead for their style of doing business. Daimler also moves
all profits into the corporate "purse" in Germany and doles out what it
believes necessary for operations instead of using the money where it is
made (in the US).
When all is said and done, the only way Chrysler will come back (if at all)
is by once again becoming a wholly owned American Company.
