I got 17x8's & 245/45/zr17 on the front and 17x9.5's & 275/40/zr17 on the
back. The rear is perfect, however the front does rub a little when at full
lock. It's done it since I got the wheels in 97, but it's almost unnoticeable
the rubbing is so slight. But with 17x9's I'm sure your steering problems
will be much more apparent, especially since with 275/50's your wheel
diameter would be larger than mine.
Unless you have obscene amounts of power, I'd recommend you go 17x8's all
the way around on 255/50/r17 (R/T tires) so you could rotate them on
occasion. Especially on these Dakotas where the front tires seem to wear out
so fast, it's a convenience I wish I went for. I went through 3 pairs of
front tires before I needed rears. And 17 inch tires ain't cheap.
