I have begun the task of running tests on my Dak to see how some of the mods
stack up. In a subsequent message I will give the first test results. This
message is to let you know what the "base" is, what the tests are comprised
of and what else I will be looking at. With that said...
Test Vehicle: '99 CC, V-6 auto, 3.55 w/open differential, tires-stock
Goodyear 255-65R15, Autolite 3923 plugs installed about 4,000 mi. ago,
Flowmaster 3 chamber muffler. Will be using Exxon 87 octane gas. Last
waxed on 1-13-2001. Other specs at the bottom. I will have the truck
weighed sometime during the course of the tests.
Tests to be done:
A - this is approx 65 miles of interstate driving, from Byron, Ga. to
Forsyth, Ga. (~32.5 mi.) and back. Cruise control set at 70 mph. This
drive goes through a construction zone where I may have to slow down
occasionally, but for the most part traffic still flows about 70. The
terrain is gently rolling, traffic usually heavy.
B - this is approx 50 miles of State hiway, from Byron, Ga. to Reynolds, Ga.
(to Silverdollar Raceway) and back. Cruise control set at 55 mph. Traffic,
not heavy, usually moves at 60 or better. The terrain is also gently
rolling as we drive along Georgia's geological "fall line". There are two
sizable hills that are both long and steep, one has a railroad crossing
about 1/3 of the way up
that I will slow down for.
C - I have measured a 1/4 mile stretch on a back road with a measuring wheel
and will make 3 passes. There is a slight uphill grade. This will be the
least accurate of the tests as I will be using a stop watch.
I will be making this series of tests using the following setups:
1. Base vehicle, as above
2. With the addition of an Extang Black Max soft tonneau, the balance of
the tests will have the tonneau in place.
3. With a Quick D intake installed.
4. With a Quick D TB installed, and stock intake back on
5. With the Quick D TB & intake installed
6. All of the above, plus a Jet II chip
I have completed tests 1 & 2 this weekend. I hope that I can begin the
balance of the tests next weekend. I have had the Quick D's on order since
before Christmas. I have sent one message to Tony simply asking if he got
my order, without a response. I am going on faith that he has even got my
order...
Other mods to the test Dak: Speedliner spray in - emerald green
to match the Dak, Silblade wipers, fog lights, Shelton Class 3 trailer
hitch.
