Holes in quad cab bed?

Does anyone know what those holes in the bed of the Quad Cab are for? There
are two, right in line, both on the floor of the bed, on the left hand side,
one towards the front and one towards the rear; they have what appear to be
plastic covers on them.

The reason I ask is a buddy of mine is going to have his bed line-x'd; the
shop has just been spraying right over them on the assumption that they aren't
used for anything, I'd just like to be sure they won't actually be needed in
the future, for example, maybe they are an access point to be able to drop the
tank, remove the bed, etc. If they are important, they can be masked off
instead of sprayed over.

  Anybody have any clues? :-)
