Synthetics are good. I've been running Castrol Syntec in mine since the
first oil change. Most on the DML use Mobil-1. Synthetic oils seem to
lubricate better and don't break down as easy. Another thing is varnish.
It seems to be a by-product of dyno oil but not synthetics. If you're going
to do the transmission, make sure you have it flushed out....and make sure
the fluid you use is ATF +3 type 7176 compliant.

Subject: DML: Oil change

I own a 1998 DAK-SLT 5.2L with 55K Miles and was thinking of changing to
synthetic oil the next time I change my oil. There are many brands on the
market but I was wondering what the thought was on Mobil-1 synthetic. Also
what is the opinion on synthetic oil in the tranny. Keep in mind this
truck is babied and never sees off road use. I am interested in efficiency
and wearability. Thankyou in advance for all input.
