Re:RE: New truck questions - 4x4, trannies, etc (long one)

When I bought my QC back in December, I had test
driven both the 4.7 and 5.9 4x4's several times over
several months and in back-to-back comparisons with
the same rear axles. I felt that they were pretty
comparable, with a slight edge to the 5.9 in
off-the-line feel/performance (based on the "pressed
against the front of the seat" gauge of course), and
an edge towards the 4.7 for more responsive
transmission downshifts or shifting in general during
WOT situations. The 5.9 has gobs of torque and when I
feel like being a good citizen, I actually and
literally must remind myself to take my foot almost
completely OFF the gas pedal to stay within the posted
35-40 mph speedlimits on streets that are flat or have
a slightly downward pitch.

Basically, what cinched the deal for me was the 0.9%
financing being offered on the 2000 models -- and it
was easier to find a 5.9L with all the options I
wanted at the time than a 4.7L b/c in my area all the
4.7's were 2001 models.

>From what I can gather from reading various QC message
boards, the 4.7 probably has the edge in terms of gas
mileage. I routinely read about people getting 17 mpg
highway. I have yet to reach that milestone with my
5.9, though admittedly most of my driving is city. At
best I've gotten around 14-15 mpg with maybe 70/30
split of hwy and city driving. I get around 11-12.5
mpg with 50% or more city driving (especially, short
trips, stop and go driving).

I hope some of this misc. rambling is helpful to you.
Feel free to email me if you have any more specific
questions.
