Alek,
You might want to check out Taylor wires too. Here's their website if you
do.

Hi Alek,

It's actually the opposite. The solid cores won't work. You should give
MSD a call and see what they say. If they don't have anything and Magnecor
does, use them. They should be fine.

Okay folks, I'm terribly frustrated here.

A week or so ago I posted about my planned MSD ignition
upgrade and how I needed some spark plug wires. Well,
Alex Harris suggested I just buy the V8 MSD wires and
get two sets in one. I thought that was a great idea,
but then AWyseGuy said that wouldn't work because the
distributor ends are different.

So, I checked the distributor ends on the wires currently
on my truck, and the ends of the wires on my dad's 3.9L.
AWyseGuy was right, totally different. The 2.5L wires have
a weird contact that actually goes through the distributor
cap, whereas the V6 & V8 have "spark plug terminal" type
distributor caps.

What's worse is I can't find any ends that would fit in
MSD's catalog, so I can't even buy a universal kit and make
it work.

So far the only company I've found that makes wires for
the 2.5L is Magnecor, and I'd like to stay away from them
because their wires are not solid-core and thus won't work
with the MSD 6A [or so I've heard from the list, I believe
Ron Wong?].

Someone on the list suggested I get some FireWires from
Crane Cams. I looked on their web site and apparently they
don't make them anymore [looks like they're discontinuing
all of their ignition products].

I looked at Accell's catalog, and they make wires for the
2.5L .. but not for the 2nd gen Daks, just 98-96 and 90-86.

Anyway, this is getting terribly frustrating.

The only thing that even looks somewhat promising is the
MSD Adapter Tower PN8405. It is made so that you can put
the 8.5mm SuperConductors on 5mm distributor caps. It's
basically a "spark plug terminal" type connector on the
top and a small cylinder of metal on the bottom. Sorry,
I know this isn't a good description, but hopefully you
get the idea.

If the Adapter Tower would work, I could then buy a V8
set of the SuperConductors and make it work. But the
adapter tower set runs $38.69, and I don't want to spend
that much on something that "might" work.

Another longshot may be getting a different distributor
cap with more sensible connectors. How likely would that
be?

So that brings me to my current state of frustration.
Have any of you other 2.5L guys upgraded your plug wires,
and if so, which did you use?

I plan on doing an entire ingition system overhaul once
I get my tax refund, which includes an MSD 6A, Blaster 2
coil, new distributor cap and rotor, new plug wires and
plugs. But if I can't find any good plug wires, I may
just scrap the whole idea and use the money elsewhere.

Please don't let me do that! I want to spend the money
on my truck, I really do! :)

Anyway, any help that you folks could give me would be
greatly appreciated - I'm getting desperate here!

Thanks!
