Generally speaking, not with a 180. That condition has happened with a 160
or a defective one that stays open all the time.

Since I figured out that little check engine light can actually read out
error codes to you by blinking, I looked for a list of codes online and
tested my truck. I'm glad to find the only code I got was 55... "end of
codes", but if I was to put in that Robertshaw 180 thermostat that you and
many others have beeen speaking of, would that cause the computer to think
the engine is warming too slow and therefore popping up error code 17...
"Engine stays cool too long"?
Thanks,
Jared

The plugs that everyone's using are Autolite 3923's and the t-stat is a
Robertshaw 755-180. The plugs are one step colder and the t-stat is 15º
cooler. Pinging is really hard on the engine and you should find a solution
as quickly as possible. Your dealer should check the belly pan gasket
first. One of the remedies the dealers have is to retard the timing by
flashing the PCM. That has worked for some and not for others. Retarding
the timing also degrades your performance. Once they do it they can't back
out of it. That's a word of caution for you. Good luck.
