Yea, but the GSX-R has a LOT more power :). The katana (92 model weights
439 dry) and I guess your guess on the weight is fairly right on track.
BUT... around town, the katana is more of a easier ride for cruising. The
GSX-R has the raw power and grunt but the suspension is also a little
stiffer.
The main thing is power... Have you really RIDDEN both bikes yet? I got on
my friend's 2000 GSXR 750 today and the whole ride angle is different. It
makes you lean towards the front of the shield more than my katana.
It's just a matter of taste. The GSXR 600 would be a great bike for starter
and long term user. You don't want to trade in later for a bigger bike and
lose $$$. My friend said if you wait until winter, you can get a GSXR 750
pretty cheap since people are going to go for the 1000. Good luck in
choosing your bike.

<snip>The GSXR is a great bike, but it may be a wee bit much to learn
on</snip
Actually, it only weighs 359 and I can almost sit straight up and still
reach the handles. I rode my managers 99 Katana 600 and it was a lot heavier
and less comfortable. I would think that a lighter, more comfortable bike
would be easier to learn on.
