I live in Michigan(North of Detroit). Winters can be pretty tough-salt on
the roads most of the winter.
The newer autos seem to hold up through this fairly well- even the 92
Dakota I had showed only signs of surface rust when I sold it(it had not
been rustproof)-still a Ziebart or similar rustproofing can be some peace of
mind if it's within your budgetary limits.
No studs or chains allowed here (chains can be used to get unstuck, but
not on the roadways) . Snow tires are fine, but a good all season tire is
all I ever used- even before I got a 4x4.
Be sure you check antifreeze...also helps alot to warm up the engine to
operating temp(or at least off the cold mark) before driving...to much
shivering and trying to stay warm makes it hard to drive safely...
