Good Idle Hunting

The Idle on my 2000 4.7L auto 4x4 Dak hunts. Not all the time but some time
it goes from approx. 450 to 1200 back and forth. Now and then it just idle
at 1100 to 1200 rpm and won't come down. Any clues for me?
