If doing a tailgate open light from scratch, I think I'd use those
magnetic switches that are used on windows and doors in home security
systems; about 2" long and 1/2" tall and wide. They would be nice and
weatherproof.

On a related topic, I keep eyeballing my snugtop shell door and thinking
about a way to make it lock/unlock with the powerlocks on the doors.
