Frank,

There's more to it than just adjusting the cable (wish it was that easy
like the good old days).

"Transmission throttle valve cable adjustment is extremely important to
proper operation. This adjustment positions the throttle valve, which
controls shift speed, quality, and part-throttle downshift sensitivity.
If cable setting is too loose, early shifts and slippage between shifts
may occur. If the setting is too tight, shifts may be delayed and part
throttle downshifts may be very sensitive. Shift-cable adjustment is
important because it positions the valve body manual valve.

Incorrect adjustment will cause creeping in NEUTRAL, premature clutch
wear, delayed engagement in any gear, or the engine will not crank in
PARK or NEUTRAL position."

Then there's the Governor Pressure Sensor and Governor Pressure Solenoid
which control the programmed pressure curves for the transmission via
the transmission control module.

I don't know what the hell you people are talking
about computer telling the trans? Uh hu well now you
all need to craw under Thats right under the dakota
and look at the linkage that goes to the tranny ...
thats what tells your tranny what gear you are in and
if you want to raise you shift points i would just
adjust the cable that comes from the tranny and hooke
up to the right side of the throttle body . That
raised my first the second shift point from 1500 to
2600 just at a roll not on it or anything ... but if
you want to get your computer reburned and try it go
for it.
