can I open your door?

I tried, out of curiosity, to unlock the doors on my friend's Dakota using my
key. To our disbelief the door unlocked! He tried his key in my truck and it
also worked. I'm wondering how common this is. I have a '95 and he has a '93.
What do you all think?

We also tried the ignition but it wouldn't work.
