Same thing happened to me. My local mechanic fixed it for me. Seems
something in the Dakota after awhile just tells it to open the EGR valve
all the time. Is your truck running rich (does the exhaust smell somewhat
like gas, or do you smell gas when you start the truck?). Anyway, try
taking the vacuum line off of the EGR valve and plug the vacuum line (so
you don't lose the vacuum). Also, when it happened to me, I got an O2
Sensor code in the computer. Mechanics told me that the always open EGR
valve caused the code to be generated. When they plugged the vacuum line
going to the EGR valve the code went away and the truck runs like a champ.
