Hey,
I've got a 95 dak that I have done a little performance work to, and
have been really happy with my truck. Recently the auto trans has been
slipping and I feel it is about to blow. When I hit the gas, the truck goes
but not as hard as it used to. At the drag strip, a brake stand is now
impossible because the trans just slips and grinds away at itself. I have
an opportunity to buy a 94 Dak for $2000 at a wholesale auction where I
work. It has a manual trans and the same engine (v6) I would like to take
that manual trans and put it in my truck which has an auto. I took the
whole sale truck for a test drive and found that it still has the power to
spin the tires in the first 3 gears and will chirp them in 4th and 5th, so I
assume it is in good condition and has recently been rebuilt because there
is permatex on the outside of it. What would be involved in doing this
transmission swap and would it be worth while? The two trucks have
different trannys - obviously- different computers, floor because of the
stick, and a clutch pedal. How long do you think this would take, and what
else am I forgetting? Has anyone else tried to do this, or is it a waste of
time. I also have a car that I could use while I'm working on the two
trucks.
Thanks for any info,
geoff
