I just did my cam and timing chain as well as intake manifold and throttle
body. You don't have to remove the heads to do the cam in these engines, all
you have to remove is the throttle body, intake manifold and fuel rails,
radiator, A/C condenser (if applicaple), fan, water pump, timing chain cover,
timing chain, cam thrust plate and oil tab, and finally the cam itself. I
would recommend putting on a better timing chain (like a progear double
roller), and it might be worth your while to do the manifold and throttle
body while you're at it.
The throttle body is easy enough that you can do it anytime, but there is no
point in paying for gaskets twice if you don't have to.
