Hey Geoff, if I were going with a emissions(mostly)legal 318, then this
would be my list of mods. Mopar headers, Mopar HP computer, ASP under drive
crank pulley, 3" exhaust from front to back with a Dynomax hi flo cat and
Race Magnum muffler, Accel cap and rotor, MSD 8.5 wires, Autolite 3923 spark
plugs, 180(like 160 better but don't know if it will pass) degree
thermostat, 52 MM throttlebody, Modded bear barrel intake, Mopar R/T cam,
Mopar 1.6 or 1.7 roller rockers, Mopar valve covers, bowl port the heads,
electric fan, Edlebrock 14X2.5" air cleaner with K&N. That's most of the
things you can do and probably pass an emissions test. As far as trans goes,
a shift kit and higher stall converter if its an auto or a Centerforce dual
friction clutch if it's a stick. A 3.90 or 4.10 LSD rear end with some sort
of traction device like traction bars(cheap) or CalTracs(expensive but
better). And at least 8" rims with some nice sticky tires. Also try and
lighten your truck with light weight replacement parts like rims, seats,
carpet and a roll pan and fiberglass hood. With most of the mods listed
except cam, heads, roller rockers and I used a 50 MM throttlebody I ran a
best of 14.10 @ 98 with a whole bunch of 14.20's and 14.30's and that was on
regular street tires. Anyway I hope this helps.
