Rick;
I have recently complained of the same problem with my 99 R/T. The first
dealer I took it two, twice told me both times "everything is in spec". The
second dealer, third attempt at fixing the problem told me this was a common
complaint with the big trucks but he didn't get it much with the Dakota's.
He said the computer is sensing a grade change and disengaging the converter
clutch then see's it doesn't need to and re-engaging. He said he would check
it out. Sometimes the grade change is as subtle as a dip in the highway. I
also had terrible pinging problems I could not shake. In doing the computer
flash he said they also found the shift points were set a little lower than
they like them so the adjusted them. I just got it back tonight but It seems
better on the 200 RPM surging.
Hope this helps.
Email me offline if you have any other questions.
