Before I bought my Dakota I did a lot of research by hanging out at the
websites for various truck groups (www.f150online.com for example), and I
heard the exact same things as I hear on the Dakota message mailing list.
You could change the brand name and the messages would be identical. Mostly
people who love their trucks with others complaining about the lemons that
they had bought. Lousy service, complaints about manual transmissions not
lasting, automatic transmission problems, and paint problems are all common
topics, didn't matter if it was a Ford or Chevy. Just go to
www.f150online.com and do a search on piston slap or door cracks.
Bottom line is that you can get a lemon with any manufacturer, and you can
get bad service from any dealer. My father bought a Ford F250 in 1988, it
was a lemon from day one, he took it back and got a 1989 which has been
trouble free with the exception of peeling paint (another common problem
between Ford/Chevy/Chrysler in the late 80's and early 90's).
My Dakota has been problem free and my dealer has been outstanding.

Im backing these guys up. This truck has been crap through and through.
Sure is gorgeous to look at though. Next time around i'll be buying a Ford.
Chevy styling has gone down the crapper and so has Chrysler quality.
