I must agree whole heartedly. I've not owned my lil Dak for very long at
all - just over a week and 200 miles later she's become a part of me. And
I'll be the first to admit, I was a Dodge lover since what seems like the
beginning of time - I used to swear to my family my first car was going to
be a full size RAM since I was about 10. But when it came down to it, I was
almost dragged over to the Ford Ranger side - came very very close to buying
one... until I saw this lil truck and knew deep down that me heading to that
particular Dodge 5 Star dealership was fate. I had head about the Dakota's
history with the trannys...and that was the first thing I asked the salesman
about. There are 2 other Daks in my family - one a 1999, one a 2001. both
driven into the ground and then some by my uncles. And I've never seen a
little truck stand up to so much abuse so well in my life.
I myself, own a '98 - and I made sure to not only check her title history,
but also get a copy of every piece of maintence that truck has had since it
rolled off the assembly line. Nothing more than routine oil changes, one
recall job on the breaks, and tire rotations. With 40k on the odometer, I'm
not afraid of how this truck is going to age - she's doing it gracefully to
date. My point of this rather long-winded post is that unfortunately even
Chrysler has issues and some of us will find ourselves the owners of less
than the dream truck we all want. But for me, even if my truck wasn't in
such pristine working order, I'd love it no less. I think David spoke truth
in his post, and no matter the issues, if you really love your truck - most
of us would find a way :o)
