Insurance, I'm not sure. When I called to get insurance on mine 2 1/2
years ago, they didn't ask 2WD vs. 4WD, and last time I got quotes online,
I don't think that was a question either.
Gas mileage will be lower.
Maintenance:
When you have to replace tires, it's all 4 at once.
4WD tires usually go for more $$$.
You have a second differential, plus transfer case, to change fluid in
(Jiffy Lube nails me for $120 on my yearly visit for both diffs, t-case and
engine oil).
All the stuff you break when you go 4-wheelin' :)
In general, more moving parts, more seals, bearings, etc. to be concerned
about.
