42RE, 44RE, and 46RE all interchangeable?

My 42RE automatic is dying and I was just told by a person very knowlegdable on
Dodges that I could run a 46RE, which would give me a heavier duty clutch
pack and
possibly other items within the transmission. Anyone done/know someone who has
done this?
