I agree with you entirely. I am really suprised that it went that long. It
hit several deer (lightly), was repainted once, I "yanked" several trees out
of the ground after they were dug up 95%, ran it into one tree, etc.
Actually, it looked really good when it finally died. I put a new bed on it
b/c I backed into a tree while hunting one day and that night slid backwards
into a bridge column! ;-) It was a tough little truck. I've got a 2k CC
Dak now and am thinking of getting a "Mayor" or a 2002 QC Dak, not sure yet.
But, with 397k on a first year truck - Dodge won me over.

Wow! That's unheard of for an automatic, and those in the early V6's seemed
especially prone to be junk. Probably had a piece of gum put in by a factory
worker holding something in just the right place! Anyway, good story. OK,
that's 397,000 miles- anybody else gonna fess up with higher than that?????

My Dad bought a 87 Dak w/ the 3.9L V6 (regular cab, long bed). He drove it
for a few years and then gave it to me when I turned 16. I drove it, gave
it to my brother, he gave it to my sister. We all did routine maintenance
(oil changes, brakes, etc.) on it. The only problem it had was a cracked
exhaust manifold @ 266k, we put edelbrock headers on it. With the original
tranny, engine, etc., it died 4 months ago with ***397k*** on it. Pretty
amazing for the first year Daks were made. It now rests in a 'grave yard'
in central Pennsylvania. Hell, it never had the diff fluids changed and
only had the tranny fluid changed 1 time (@ 24xk). It was an auto.
