Hey Jon- towing does not affect my cooling! I sometimes tow race cars and my
buddy's Silverado show truck and they generally weigh about 5,000 to 6,500+
lbs loaded on the hauler. The cooling issues are the same! Although, I never
use the A/C, I don't think it would make a difference because the elec. fan
runs when the A/C does, so it kind of offsets itself.

Not that I know of. A buddy of mine has a 2000 QC 5-speed with the
4.7. Its still bone stock and it runs nice and cool. This past July
we towed a 5,000lb travel trailer from NY to WI. Even in mid 90
degree temps towing the trailer in stop and go traffic through
Chicago, the temp gauge never got anywhere near high enough for us
to start thinking about doing something about it. As I recall,
we had the A/C on most of the way too. :-)
I'm also amazed at that truck when you shut it down and pop the hood,
he doesn't get the usual rush of hot air. The hood is also rarely warm.
I guess it must be the aluminum heads?
