Guys,
I come around a curve on the service road to get up on the hi-way and I
meet a SEMI axle coming straight at me. It's first in one lane then the
other. Hell, which way do I go? I slam on brakes and it goes by me on the
shoulder make about 30 mph. Picture this a full rear axle with 2 sets of dual
wheels coming down the road without a driver headed straight for you and it
has no brakes. It ain't funny, it's scary.
It seems that a scrap iron truck was running about 20 over the speed
limit (55) and the light changed on him. He slams on the brakes and the rear
end starts hopping when the load shifts to the front of the trailer. On about
the 3rd bounce the back rear axle lets go and parts company with the trailer.
Passed the tractor and goes down the road about 100 yards before making an
unscheduled right turn down 50 foot embankment and onto the service road.
Hell, from the looks of the truck it was a case of load of sCRAP hauling
a load of sCRAP. I'd have been afraid to get over 20mph in the thing. Bill
